SUSTAINING CULTURAL AND BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY
IN A RAPIDLY CHANGING WORLD: LESSONS FOR GLOBAL POLICY

Ubuntu Discussion

Conference attendees may apply to host an informal discussion or workshop in the Museum’s communal Ubuntu space on a topic related to the Symposium’s main themes. Ubuntu sessions will provide a place for individuals and groups to come together informally and organically to discuss issues, exchange views, and forge partnerships and alliances.

Ubuntu sessions are scheduled on Day Two (Thursday, April 3, 2008) from 11:00am-12:00pm, 1:00-2:00pm, and 3:00-4:00pm; the space will also be available for impromptu gatherings at other times during the Symposium. Note: Ubuntu sessions during the times listed above will occur at the same time as the day’s scheduled Panel Discussions.

Ubuntu discussions in any language are welcome. Please note, however, that no simultaneous interpretation will be available.

Tables and chairs will be grouped around the communal space, which is a large, open room with floor-to-ceiling windows along one wall.

Please provide whatever materials you will need (literature, note pads, flip chart, laptop, etc.). There are no facilities for projecting visual presentations in the Ubuntu space.

To suggest a topic or request a table, please submit the following:

- Title (subject)

- A brief description

- Language in which the presentation will be offered

- Completed Call for Participation Application Form

Note: Please review the Criteria for Selection list, to help focus your proposal.

Deadline: December 15, 2007 * (early decision)
Selection notification: January 2008

* Preference will be given to proposals submitted by December 15. Later submissions will be considered if
space remains. A small number of discussion tables will be left unassigned until Day One (April 2, 2008), to
accommodate requests for discussion topics that arise during Symposium.

If you require a decision before early January (e.g. for visa requirements to travel to New York), please state so in your email and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

All Ubuntu participants must register for the symposium by Friday, February 15, to guarantee inclusion in the printed Program.

Please Note: The American Museum is unable to provide financial support to poster presenters for travel or accommodation. For a list of hotels, student centers, and hostels in the neighborhood of the Museum, see Travel/NYC Information.
